In general, term life insurance policies do not have cash value. Therefore, there is no value to return to the policy owner if the policy is terminated. Once premiums are discontinued on a term policy, the policy will eventually enter a grace period and lapse without value. The policy owner will continue to have life insurance coverage until the policy is lapsed.
- If your policy is set up on a direct bill there is no action necessary. Simply discontinue sending your premium payments and your contract will lapse without value.
- If your policy is set up on an automatic draft you may contact the Customer Service Center in one of the following ways to request that the draft be stopped
Please note that you will continue to receive premium reminder notices and other correspondence until the final lapse date is reached.
A policy cancellation, or full surrender, discharges the entire liability of the life insurance company which issued the policy. At the time of cancellation or full surrender the life insurance company will issue a check for any cash value or return of premium owed to the policy owner stipulated in the policy. Once the policy is cancelled or surrendered in full, the valuable life insurance coverage is ended and can not be reinstated.
